If someone were to tell me to describe my home, I'd say cozy. I like a plethora of different design styles. I like simple, I like modern, I like traditional, I like Scandinavian, I like farmhouse, I like eclectic. But when I walk into my house I want it to feel like home and I want it to feel inviting. I want my couch in my family room to scream lay here all day with a hot cup of tea and nose dive into my favorite book, and I think I've accomplished that.
Here you'll find my room of all rooms. The most used room in my house. The room where we display our sentimental trinkets. The room where we have our most memorable portraits. Our FAMILY room. Here is our room decorated for Christmas and I can't wait to spend time in here during the holiday season.
Lighting is everything. If you want to put a built-in in your house, make sure you add spotlights overhead to highlight all your special items.
I absolutely love this garland. I purchased three strands so it would span the length of my mantel and hang all the way to the floor. It has pine branches, cranberries, and pine cones intertwined. I prefer stringing my own lights instead of pre-lit garland in case it goes out over time. Note: to protect your mantel you might want to consider placing something underneath the garland (like burlap).
I've always liked the look of sconces. These lanterns give you that look without having to deal with electrical. I placed remote controlled flameless candles in them so I can turn the on and off easily which is extremely convenient. I got the stockings from home goods and the stocking hangers from target. I hung pine cones for an extra touch.
Since I have large windows, I ordered four panels and sewed them together. I love how these curtains add a sense of warmth to this room. And an added benefit is that it allows light shine through during the day.
Of course you can't forget why we're celebrating Christmas. This nativity set I got from hobby lobby. I wanted this scene to stand out, so I placed a layer of burlap with lights underneath.
I love this leather ottoman from pottery barn. I love leather, but to me leather chairs and couches are never as cozy or comfortable. So I compromised for a leather ottoman. I had my eye on it for over a year and waited to get 20% off and free shipping. This couch has been the single best purchase I've made for my house. With it being slipcovered, we have had to remove and wash it several times due to anything and everything getting on it. This couch comes in several different colors and fabrics and is truly swallow you and eat you up comfortable.
Home goods has an array of new photos that come in once a week. I can't get myself to spend a lot of money on art that I know I'm going to get tired of in two-three years. So a monthly visit to hoemegoods makes it easy for me to switch these out as needed. I love these for the moment - and at $40/piece you can't lose.
And last but not least, the Kate Swivel chairs. I picked out the fabric with Elizabeth Yeager at Yeager interior and designs. But the chair itself is perfect for this room. It swivels, so you can join in the conversation with people on the couch or turn and watch television. I chose to slipcover them to match the style of the room.
