So there's always that one color your eyes are drawn to. I am a magenta girl, but for my home, I've always loved blues. They say it's soothing, and when I come home form a long day at work - I want to feel just that. I know this room isn't quite complete and my home changes constantly, but here's a sneak peek to the almost finished product. It's a BIG room. We do have a separate living and family space, so I wanted this room to be all about the conversation. This tufted Kensington couch (pictured in sand) was my first purchase. Everything revolved around the couch. I had my friends from Yeager Interior Design help me pick out the paint color and layout of the room. The wingback chair was a hand me down, and I'd like to cover it in leather soon. I snagged this coffee table and rug from World Market (both are limited edition) so unfortunately they are both sold out. But World Market is my go to for rugs. I know I'll want to change this whole look up in the next few years, so I find it hard to splurge on a nice rug when my mind is ever changing. I also love these poufs for my dogs. They are perfect. I bought them from YDI but you can also purchase them here. The picture - as soon as I saw it in stores, I knew I had to buy it. You can purchase it here. Now about those mirrors. I get so many compliments on them. I snagged them at homegoods - yes homegoods. Can I get a #fabfind? Oh and the lamps too! The end tables I got from YDI but you can purchase them here. Across the way is my reading nook. You can read all about it here.
I also have to admit, that I'm in love with wall sconces. If I could put wall sconces everywhere, I would. Actually, I think I have. I got the clock from hobby lobby and the candle wall sconces from homegoods.

An entry should inspire your guest and give them an immediate sense of your style, personality, and character. For the holidays I changed it up a bit. But I do think it does scream - a classic Christmas This table is the focal point of our entry. Lamps in an entry are always inviting. Entry's also have to serve a purpose. So be sure you have a mirror so you can check yourself before you "exit." I decided on a simple wreath, a string of garland, and a silver bow. For me it's about symmetry. I don't have an eye for asymmetry (which I'm sure benefits me as a dentist). So when I place things, I like two of them. Call me old fashioned, but I'm never satisfied with something short on end and tall on the other. Hence, two identical lamps, two identical dried hydrangeas, and similar size items on each end. Don't let the color of any object deter you from purchasing it. This sleigh was a hand me down that was red and green. I spray painted it silver and voila - fast forward to modern design.
If someone were to tell me to describe my home, I'd say cozy. I like a plethora of different design styles. I like simple, I like modern, I like traditional, I like Scandinavian, I like farmhouse, I like eclectic. But when I walk into my house I want it to feel like home and I want it to feel inviting. I want my couch in my family room to scream lay here all day with a hot cup of tea and nose dive into my favorite book, and I think I've accomplished that. Here you'll find my room of all rooms. The most used room in my house. The room where we display our sentimental trinkets. The room where we have our most memorable portraits. Our FAMILY room. Here is our room decorated for Christmas and I can't wait to spend time in here during the holiday season. Lighting is everything. If you want to put a built-in in your house, make sure you add spotlights overhead to highlight all your special items. I absolutely love this garland. I purchased three strands so it would span the length of my mantel and hang all the way to the floor. It has pine branches, cranberries, and pine cones intertwined. I prefer stringing my own lights instead of pre-lit garland in case it goes out over time. Note: to protect your mantel you might want to consider placing something underneath the garland (like burlap). I've always liked the look of sconces. These lanterns give you that look without having to deal with electrical. I placed remote controlled flameless candles in them so I can turn the on and off easily which is extremely convenient. I got the stockings from home goods and the stocking hangers from target. I hung pine cones for an extra touch. Since I have large windows, I ordered four panels and sewed them together. I love how these curtains add a sense of warmth to this room. And an added benefit is that it allows light shine through during the day. Of course you can't forget why we're celebrating Christmas. This nativity set I got from hobby lobby. I wanted this scene to stand out, so I placed a layer of burlap with lights underneath. I love this leather ottoman from pottery barn. I love leather, but to me leather chairs and couches are never as cozy or comfortable. So I compromised for a leather ottoman. I had my eye on it for over a year and waited to get 20% off and free shipping. This couch has been the single best purchase I've made for my house. With it being slipcovered, we have had to remove and wash it several times due to anything and everything getting on it. This couch comes in several different colors and fabrics and is truly swallow you and eat you up comfortable. Home goods has an array of new photos that come in once a week. I can't get myself to spend a lot of money on art that I know I'm going to get tired of in two-three years. So a monthly visit to hoemegoods makes it easy for me to switch these out as needed. I love these for the moment - and at $40/piece you can't lose. And last but not least, the Kate Swivel chairs. I picked out the fabric with Elizabeth Yeager at Yeager interior and designs. But the chair itself is perfect for this room. It swivels, so you can join in the conversation with people on the couch or turn and watch television. I chose to slipcover them to match the style of the room.
This is my spot. The room I greet my dogs in. The room where I read. The room where I sit and watch the deer or cars go by in our neighborhood, and the room where I reflect on my travels around the world. Behind our chairs is a large world map. It's nice to stand back and see all the places we've conquered. We hot glued this map to a large foam board and pinned away! Links below. Standing to the left is a ladder that holds two of the coziest blankets for those chilly nights. Above the map is a picture light that not only emphasizes the pins and topography but also adds to the ambiance of the nook. ![]() Vignettes are the some of the hardest thing in design to get right. I kept it rustic with this edison lamp, two books in the color of my room, coasters to protect the table, and of course a call bell in case I need some first rate service. ;) Most of the items pictured are linked below. Feel free to comment if you have any additional questions! Happy shopping!
